Historical Political Cartoons

I think the underlying message of this cartoon is that, John A. MacDonald is trying to get the provinces to join confederation. The provinces in this cartoon are little girls, whocant make their mind up if they want to join confeterration or not. I think the auther has a favourable opinion about the confederation because, John A. MacDonald is portrayed as a learned man   and he has to explain things simply to the provinces who are portrayed as a group of children. Not just children, but as females! this is sarcasm as the provinces are supposedly so dumb that they are female children and don’t know any better.

Unnecessary use of Water

In class we had to get into groups  to create a prezi and a movie release. We played the role of water resource engineers, we were asked to work for the United Nations to seek funding to find a solution to the issue unnecessary use of water.

In class we were told choose a problem or issue that exists in the world today. Identify the problem, and try to research the history of the problem or issue (eg. causes, root of problem, how long has this problem existed, etc). Solve the problem! – What do you think could be done to solve this problem? What suggestions do you have that could bring an end to this problem? The world issue that i choose was Child Labor.

History Interview: George Brown

In class we were assigned to create an interview script with a partner. We had to pick a key individuals of confederation, either Brown, Cartier, MacDonald, or the ‘forgotten voices. After picking our individual we had to demonstrate our understanding of the role of that key individual in Confederation. My partner and I decided to chose George Brown.

Movie Impact

The movie that I have chosen is called Charlie St. Cloud. I think the target audience for this movie is young adolescents. This movie has a strong message has some scenes that are not appropriate for all age groups. If a child audience watches this movie they may not understand the message.

The movie Charlie St. Cloud is about a boy named Charlie who young sailor, who gets all the glory. Charlie has a younger brother named Sam who loves baseball, and a mother. He earned himself a sailing scholarship to Stanford. His dreams are soon crush after a freak accident. Charlie survived the crash but his younger brother didn’t, when the boys were taken to the hospital, they both had no pulse at all. When all of the sudden Charlie’s pulse rating suddenly appeared on the screen. A miracle happened Charlie survived! He didn’t really think of why until five years later when he can a crossed the same doctor that was right there when Charlie came back to life. Charlie had been working at the grave yard after Sam died and he would play catch with Sam every night for one hour as they promised before Sam died. The doctor told Charlie that he survived for a reason and that he needed to find that reason. The reason…….

This movie has an impact on me because it’s heartfelt, powerful and appealing. This movie also shows how to overcome the hardest things in life. When Charlie found out the reason that he lived the crash, he did accomplished the reason that he lived; but it came in a way that he risked his life but he was willing to do it. This movie tells me that anything is possible and it teaches how to overcome even the hardest things in life.

History- Reflecting

I remembered that …
Before Canada became an offical country the land was divided into upper and lower Canada.(Ontario and Quebec) Canada became a country in 1967, the provinces are not the same, as how we know them today. Most of the other provinces that make up Canada, I knew but I did not know when they became a part of Canada.

I noticed that…

Each of theses provinces had their own resourse. For example, most of New Brunswick was forest and lumber was their most valuable resource; because of its location, many families in Nova Scotia relied on fish as their primary source of income.
I was unaware of..

That in 1967,  Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia were the only provinces that were a part of confederation. In 1870, Manitoba became the fifth province.

Where in the World?

In class we told to go this site. It’s where they give you a picture and you have to name the picture. This is one of the pictures that I though we cool.

  • This is a picture of Yokohama, Japan.
  • With a population of over three million people is Yokohama Japan’s second largest city.
  • Yokohama quickly grew from a small fishing village into one of Japan’s major cities.
  • Until today, Yokohama remains popular among expats, has one of the world’s largest chinatowns and preserves some former Western residences in the Yamate district.

2011 in 58 Seconds

What was the most world changing event of 2011?

Personally, I think there was a lot of world changing events in 2011. I think all the extreme weather events were the most changing events of 2011 . All extreme weather has effects on everyone, for example a couple of years ago there was a hurricane that hit a island that was quite poor. Our school took donations to give to that island, and one of the parents offered to fly them over to the island. Also in Haiti which is also a poor place, some of the solders from the war were sent home but some didn’t want to go home because they wanted to go help Haiti. They gave up a chance to see their family’s, instead they did a amazing deed by going and helping out Haiti. I think weather events change the world the most for two reasons. Depending on where it occurs but it could effect the amount of production in that particular country. When a major event happens like this it seems to encourage people to help out more. There has been so many major weather events happen in 2011 not all victims have gotten the help that is needed. I think the most world changing event of 2011 is all the extreme weather.
